Welcome

The Western Canadian Conference on Computing Education is a forum for discussing the development of computing programs and curricula and for sharing innovative strategies and tools for teaching and learning in fields such as computer science, computer technology, and information systems. WCCCE 2010 will take place on May 7 and 8, 2010. WCCEE 2010 is hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna. The conference brings together university and college educators, as well as industry and government representatives who have an interest in computing education. We are soliciting papers, demonstrations, and proposals for both panels and Birds of a Feather sessions.
The conference is soliciting papers, posters and demonstrations in a wide range of topics including the following:

• Post secondary programs and curricula
• New or experimental curricula at any level
• Teaching methods or tools for specific concepts or courses
• Materials for specific concepts or courses
• General methods and tools for computer related courses
• Methods, tools and effective structures of designing and teaching computer labs
• Applications for distance and/or distributed learning
• Multimedia applications for computer education

Important Dates

• March 20, 2010 - All proposals due
• April 1, 2010 - Notification of acceptance
• April 9, 2010 - Camera ready for papers and posters
• April 15, 2010 - Early bird registration closes

WCCCE will run in cooperation with ACM and SIGCSE. As part of this "in cooperation status" the proceedings will be included in the ACM Digital Library.

Keynote Speakers

• Dr. Marcia C. Linn, Professor Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Title: Teaching and Learning Computer Science
• Dr. Donald Chinn, Associate Professor in the Institute of Technology at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Inivted Workshop Title: CS Unplugged Activities to Promote Computer Science
• Dr. David Kaufman, Professor, Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby. Title: Teaching in the 21st Century: New Wine in Old Bottles
• Don Slater, Assistant Teaching Professor, Carnegie Mellon University. Invited Workshop Title: Alice 3 and Java for CS1 & AP CS (based on SIGCSE 2009)

  Note: The Alice workshop is 3 hours. Registration for the workshop will be on a first come first serve basis at the opening of registration on Friday morning.
